“Dave and Gladi a la Kaylan”
Gladi, a self described curious child or as she says in an impossibly adorable and sweet voice, “I’m the most curious person ever,” ventured into a field of tall grass to collect some seeds with long, white, fluffy feather-like things attached to them. However, she became timid when faced with the prospect of walking through the tall grassy field back to her parents alone. ”Mom-o, Dad-o come hold my hand!” Dad-o came to the rescue and while holding her hand back to the walking path he explained to her that there is nothing to fear. In this picture he is explaining to her that if she mats down the grass in front of her with her feet, it will be nice and easy to walk through.
This picture is dedicated to a fine young photographer friend who’s first gallery show (a show that featured my brother Dave’s work as well) I recently attended. Her name is Kaylan Reynolds Buteyn. While listening to her talk at her show a particular comment blew my mind away. I discovered that she had purchased her first camera only 3 years ago! The maturity of her photographic talent certainly wasn’t something I would have expected of a person who had only been shooting for such a short period of time. There is much to like in Kaylan’s work, but I especially enjoy her sense and expression of beautiful light and her dreamy use of bokeh as a method of expression. With that in mind, I shot this above picture in a manner that I felt reflected her photographic sensibility as a way of expressing that I enjoyed her show. @Kaylan Your work is very good Kaylan. It is sort of scary good considering that you have been doing this for only 3 years!
