“Spine Surgeon: A Photo Essay 16 of”
Surgery is without question a team effort. Every member of the surgical team has a very specific role. Here an anesthesiologist carefully observes his patient while the spine surgeons do their work.
Dr. Todd J. Albert is the president and chief spine surgeon at the Rothman Institute and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. This is a photo essay for Orthopedics This Week about a humble and caring genius who cuts people’s bodies open and works on them as calmly and effectively as if he were carrying out a mundane task.

I’ve been dissecting things in my anatomy class lately, and it’s really not that easy to tell muscles and things apart… I imagine it would be easier on something living, but still!
I get to do my junior paper on anesthesiology! My uncle works with doctors, so I get to wear scrubs for a day and hang out with them. I’m really excited!
I really like all these pictures, so much calm focus on all their faces..
