The Hang 2009 Part 8
Mindy recently gave birth to her first child. She named her Molly and she is perfect in every way. Mindy and Michael shared photos of Molly when she was born, but when I met her, her beauty and cuteness far exceeded the pictures. Molly and I hit it off pretty quickly as she fell asleep in my arms on more than one occasion that weekend. That reminded me of Molly’s mother and my friend Mindy. Mindy and I hit it off pretty quickly at college and although she never fell asleep in my arms we fast became friends and found ourselves sharing our closest stories with each other.
During our sophomore year at school Mindy and I became study buddies and she also taught me much about the world of women (Mindy, no need to go into details on this blog, or else…) and I like to think I was a pretty good listening ear. Mindy is always one of the most well connected friends I know. At college it seemed that Mindy knew everybody and everybody knew Mindy; yet the special thing about her was that somehow Mindy never made anyone feel like a second rate friend. Although her connections were large in number, the connection she formed with you was nothing less than intimate. I love and appreciate that about her.
As it is with many of us Mindy is somewhat of a mystery in that even though she was raised on a farm, and because of it is extremely capable at nearly anything she attempts, there is also softness and gentleness about her that I wouldn’t have expected from a farm girl—guess I didn’t know many farm women
. For this reason I had no doubt at that time that Mindy would make a great mother one day if she wanted that for her life. Well, she did want that and now Molly has entered the world. Molly, although you don’t know now, you will one day be all grown up and able to reflect on your life. At that time, if you have any measure of success or love in your life, know that your mother and father had much to do with all of that. Congratulations Mindy and Michael!
