“They Captured My Heart 06″

It’s true—kids just like hanging on stuff. I remember as a child always hanging, swinging, crawling, bouncing, what have you on stuff all the time. While this boy hanging on this pipe caught my eyes, I apparently caught the eyes of three others looking out a window a few inches to the left. The adult woman in the frame is one of the orphanage workers. I was extremely pleased to witness how much these workers seem to love these children. Is there a greater thing we can do than to show love to those who have none or have never known it? Not in my book.
While working on an assignment for Compassion International in Korea I followed a man back to the orphanage of his childhood near the southern tip of Korea. Although my time at the orphanage was brief, the unbearably sweet children there affected me deeply. The mix of being reminded of my own orphan childhood with the knowledge that these sweet children were without parents to tuck them in at night choked me up for weeks after returning home. Although their situation is sad, they, like most children, still experience the joys of curiosity and simple play. I hope this short series will be able to express a bit of their joy in the face of adversity. They have a great deal to teach us. To see some background photos of me hanging out (literally) with some of the children you can go HERE.

My boys always want to be Tarzan too. It is so true, they just want to swing around and never seem to be tired at all.
This is a fabulous capture.of dual images.

Thanks guys! I wanted to show in this series that these children still have happiness even though their lives were bad enough to have made them orphans.
