“The 5 Year Old Spitfire”

This post is for my sister Carolyn. I don’t think she would mind me sharing her recent Facebook status that went something like, “why does a 5 year old fight so hard?” Watching all of my sisters and brothers (I’m the youngest of 4 sisters and 2 brothers) raise many babies among them I have come to the conclusion that perhaps there is no more important job than being responsible for the life of another person. For reasons that are still a mystery to the experts and common folk alike, children, just like the rest of us grownups, seem to be as unique as the fingerprints on our fingers. Some are filled with such energy that one wonders if their child has a secret stash of jolt energy drink under their bed from which they take a huge swig of first thing in the morning. Other children seem as graceful and quiet as a butterfly in flight. Hey sis, although Alice without a doubt has a boxer soul at times, she is blessed to have a mother who loves her both in the good times and the bad. Sadly, some children can’t say the same for their parents. Know that you are one of the good ones out there. Without question you are a good mother who understands that love is a great deal more than a simple word of affection. I hope that during the difficult times you can recall back to moments such as the one above. I like this picture of Alice because it shows both the sweet and the fire side of her in a single frame.

Dave H: I had no idea what you were talking about until I googled it and yeah she really does! I think this was the day that Alice got some washable markers or something like that and was going around coloring her face, arms, legs, and hair in all sorts of strange colors (not to mention trying to color me the same the little stinker). This is why her skin looks a bit bizarre in this photo. Mainly I think it’s her strange little expression (smile) that makes her look like one of those dolls! So bad that now I have that scary doll image in my mind! Thanks man!

Just try and live with that expression!
And she still colors all over her skin.

What an adorable shot! I love the washable tattoos on her forearms. Amazing description too!
