“I’m Just a Tall Kid”

atlanta-aquarium-main-view-01.jpg

When I was a little kid my parents took me to an aquarium where I saw my first dolphin.  It was then that I started to collect posters of dolphins, other whales, and sharks and read many books about them (my parents and siblings had to endure me talking nonstop about how smart dolphins were and everything else I knew about them—those who know me now might find it a bit surprising that I was, much to the annoyance of my sibs, a chatterbox as a child).  Having been amazed and filled with wonder at a dolphin show there I instantly announced that I would become a dolphin trainer when I grow up (I also announced that I wouldn’t marry a woman unless she agreed to live with me and my mother).

Well, as with everything in life, things come to pass, time marches on, dreams change, and I guess I’m now what they call a grownup.  Even though I don’t train dolphins for a living nor force my wife to live with my mother, I am, both at heart and at times in action (just ask my wife), still a kid.  Although now a bit more scarred and bruised by life, it’s good to know grownups can still feel a sense of wonder about the world around us.  I hope that never goes away.

This might actually be true. You were amazing about including me in a lot of things you did (even though you were much older than me) and always showed interest in me. I suppose that was one of the reasons why I always wanted to be like you.

Nice shot, Andrew :) By the way, if you still think dolphins are intelligent, you should go rent The Life Aquatic, be prepared for a strange (but hilarious) parody of Jacques Cousteau, and be ready to have your childhood assumptions challenged…

-your marine biologist friend, married and lovin’ it (oh, and lovin’ my wife!)

This is a very well composed photo. So beautifully captured. I love the actions that you captured and the colour is just so nice… I do not not know what other word tha I could use to praise this piece of art, except awesome!

I hope I have more time to browse through…but its time to get ready for church service… but I will come back… and I am really glad to know this stream. I feel a lot of love here. Thank you!
