the process of remembering: a photoblog by andrew huth

“Wordless”

korean-old-man-look1.jpg

Walking down a narrow alleyway I encountered this man.  Many of my portraits are about the eyes so naturally I was drawn to this man looking right through me, almost challengingly as my friend Allen said when I showed him this picture.  I often talk with the people I photograph, but in this case we didn’t exchange words.  Rather we just gazed into each other’s eyes for about a minute while I took a few photos.  Without words he knew what I was about so I did my best to express through my body language that I was grateful for his gift.  Afterward, we touched each other gently and then went our separate ways.
