“Sight: Yeah It’s Important”

heather-eye-backlit.jpg

UPDATE:  Heather made it out of surgery just fine and the doctor said he was pleased with the results.  Thanks for praying for and keeping Heather in your thoughts.

Two years after her first cataract surgery on her left eye, Heather is having surgery tomorrow to remove the other cataract in her right eye.  For new followers of this blog, a brief history is in order.  Most cataract surgeries are often done on people much older than Heather.  However, following a courageous fight with cancer seven years ago involving chemo, radiation and a bone marrow transplant, (in which Heather gave cancer a throw down and walked away delivering an old fashion butt whooping) she had to take large amounts of steroids among tons of other meds.  As it often can be with many medications, there are darker sides to them.  For steroids, one of the darker elements is the possibility of developing cataracts.  So once again, my brave and amazing wife will complete another chapter in this saga that ends with our hopes intact tomorrow at nine in the morning.  Cataract surgery is a routine enough surgery, but it’s surgery nonetheless so I remain thankful for all the well wishes you have sent her over the past few weeks.  Now before you all yell at me for making my wife point a flashlight into her eyes, let me defend myself and say that it only took 3 frames and 1 outburst from Heather that involved something about wanting to hurt me.  By baseball’s standards, I threw 3 strikes and 1 ball to close out the game.

Yes, it’s been a journey… but we’re all ready to walk the walk, whether we’re all together or alone.

Thank you for posting this photo and information. My 15-year-old great-nephew is getting ready for his bone marrow transplant, and my second cousin has had cataract surgery due to her BMT several years ago. My husband is also a six-year cancer survivor, but luckily it was caught so early that he never required treatments past surgery. Good luck to you and your beautiful wife!
