the process of remembering: a photoblog by andrew huth

Cathedral of SS Peter and Paul

When I walked into this cathedral in Philadelphia the other day, it was extremely quiet and nearly empty. It was peaceful to sit there awhile.

Thanks for the nice comments you two. Hey Kris to answer your question—sort of. The picture is from 1 exposure. I just extended the shadows and highlight to get a fuller dynamic range (closer to the DR of b/w film rather than digital senor)—so in some regard that is a bit like the principle of HDR, but I didn’t blend from multiple images like most HDR images. I didn’t have a tripod with me and since this was shot at nearly 1/13 second there was no real way for me to get multiple images with different exposure values that would have lined up too well.

By the way, the images on both of your sites are stunning! I am having a difficult time taking my eyes away from them. Fantastic work both of you. I will be looking at your sites on a regular bases for sure.
