the process of remembering: a photoblog by andrew huth

Heather’s profile against the light of a church parking lot light at night. Looking at this picture causes me to think about the people in my life. It brings to mind the power of the familiar. I am grateful that I can identify Heather even from her silhouette. I don’t know what it is exactly—I’m sure there are many people with similar facial form as her. I think it’s the combination of the lines of her face mixed with my intimate knowing of her that allows me to see clearly who she is. I am thankful that I know someone as well as I know her and that I am likewise known to her. The familiar is a powerful thing. Community is a powerful thing. I want to know my family and friends well enough to pick them out even in the darkest of places.
