I know there is a tendency for many wedding photographers to setup shots so they are just so. I don’t normally like this approach since much of the shots (unless the couple is willing to give some time for creativity—something that is not easily available at most weddings) tend to be stale and lifeless. I like the moments (however brief that might be when someone is pointing a camera at you) when the couple becomes unaware of you for whatever reasons—in these photos here, a distraction. It’s the unguarded moments captured in photography that seems to peak my interest the most. It’s a balance act for sure, because I believe those being photographed whom are aware of the photographer can also produce moments of intense honesty as well as those captured moments that are captured serendipitously. Regardless, I thought these two images were more interesting than the ones of them looking straight at the camera in a classic portrait pose. I feel a hint of their personalities are present in these photos—Lis, unselfish with her laughter and smile and Kaycee, shy and yet possesses a subtle humor.
