Having read my father’s comment on this picture I had to add a little footnote. Dandelions……hummm what are they? During my college days my father would sometimes come pick me and my then girlfriend (now wife) up for breaks and for the summer. On these event filled trips my father at times would take the time to educate and challenge my scientist girlfriend on her knowledge of plant biology (it was mostly her acting like she didn’t know anything just to hear my Dad explain it, because nobody tells it quite like Pa tells it). During one of the trips we got on the topic of dandelions. Upon seeing many of them across the landscape of rural New York my father says, “hey do you know that dandelions are weeds?” To which we would say “oh really, they are?—wink wink” “Yeah everyone knows that Miss Heather (even now he still calls her Miss). Followed by, “yeah but do you know what weeds really are?” he would ask. “uh weeds??,” we would say. To which he would reply, “now come on….you know weeds are really flowers in disguise” or “weeds are misplaced flowers.”
This is my father. A man in love with nature. A man who is able to see beauty in many things. Looking at this photo now this thought crosses my mind…..yeah I think he is right about that weed thing.

What! … Son! … no caption embellishing your ‘lion photo? Don’t you remember our trips home from Houghton? … you, me, and Miss Heather? I’m crushed!
