Historically they have been used for ink and for dyeing cloth. Last week I set the girls up with feathers and a glass jar of the mashed pokeberries and let them paint. You can see a photo of that at http://www.virginiajournal.org

pokeberry or pokeweed… that’s the common name anyway. you’d have to get Paul Ulrich to confirm latin genus and species…
