“The Follow-Up”

heather-eye-doctor

A month ago Heather, at the age of 26, had cataract surgery. She developed cataracts because she has been on steroids, among 9 other drugs she takes daily, for the past 4 years. She takes these drugs mainly to ward off GVHD caused by a Bone Marrow Transplant she had 4 years ago. Heather had this transplant because at the age of 22 she was diagnosed with stage 4 leukemia. She nearly lost everything. I nearly lost everything. Now, a cancer has been removed and an eye has been restored. We are tired. We are grateful.
